IEM relaxes each particle toward its cell's linear reconstruction, the scattered mean plus the gradient of the cell means times the particle's offset from the cell's particle centroid, instead of the stepped cell mean. Cell means and totals are unchanged; the extra diffusion of the resolved mean that the stepped target added (+4% to +17% on the two-stream case) is removed. Experimental pending cluster reruns.
